Challenges in Teaching English for EFL Learners at Pesantren: Teachers’ Voices

Abstract: The aim of this study was to find out the challenges faced by teachers of English in teaching English at pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). “…This condition brought about ineffective lessons as pesantren students still showed a lack of English communication skills. Moreover, it was difficult for teachers to improve students' motivation and language competence, to manage overcrowded classes and limited time, as well as to deal with a lack of supporting facilities (Marzulina et al, 2021;Hidayat & Hawanti, 2021).
