Abstract: Aims. NGC 4631 is an interacting galaxy which exhibits one of the largest gaseous halos observed among edge-on galaxies. We aim to examine the synchrotron and polarization properties of its disk and halo emission with new radio continuum data. Methods. Radio continuum observations of NGC 4631 were performed with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array at C-band (5.99 GHz) in the C and D array configurations, and at L-band (1.57 GHz) in the B, C, and D array configurations. The Rotation Measure Synthesis algorithm … Show more

“…We propose that the magnetic field has influenced the hot gas dynamics. This is supported by previous findings of other CHANG-ES galaxies like NGC 4631 (Mora-Partiarroyo et al 2019) or NGC 4666 (Stein et al 2019), where the magnetic field and X-ray morphologies are also similar.…”

“…Moreover, we detected a tight correlation ofh with the mass surface density of the galaxies, and hence for a gravitational influence on the CR outflows. This could recently be confirmed also for larger galaxies like NGC 4631 (Mora-Partiarroyo et al 2019), andNGC 891 (Schmidt et al 2019), presented together with the CHANG-ES subsample of 13 galaxies in Fig. 1, right.…”

“…1, left). In the upper halo of NGC 4631 the regular magnetic fields seem to form large-scale helical magnetic loops (Mora-Partiarroyo et al 2019). The regular fields in the halo may be former disk fields that were transported into the halo by galactic winds (see below).…”

“…15. Normalised scale heightsh at 6 GHz vs. mass surface densities for the CHANG-ES galaxy sample of Krause et al (2018), as well as the CHANG-ES galaxies NGC 891, 4565 (both this work), 4631 (Mora-Partiarroyo et al 2019), and 4666 (Stein et al 2019). The weighted linear fit to the data (excluding NGC 4565 and UGC 10288) has a slope of 0.18 ± 0.02 (reduced χ 2 = 0.38).…”
