Change in the Dielectric Properties of Normal and Relaxor Ferroelectric Ceramic Composites in BT-PZT and PMN-PZT Systems by an Uniaxial Compressive Stress

Abstract: Effects of an uniaxial compressive pre-stress on the dielectric properties of normal and relaxor ferroelectric ceramic composites in BT-PZT and PMN-PZT systems are investigated. The dielectric properties are observed under the compressive pre-stress levels up to 15 and 5 MPa for BT-PZT and PMN-PZT, respectively, using a uniaxial compressometer. Both the dielectric constant and the dielectric loss tangent of the BT-PZT ceramics increase significantly with increasing applied stress. Larger changes in the dielect… Show more

“…It was reported that effect of PZT additions into BT ceramics (i.e. (1 − x)BT-xPZT) showed outstanding piezoelectric properties [14]. We observed a similar trend with BT additions into PLSZNT ceramic system, which exhibited excellent piezoelectric properties.…”

“…Our results also indicate that for 0.5BT addition to 0.5PLSZNT in the tetragonal symmetry [3] led to a remarkable grain growth increment. Moreover, the remarkable grain growth observed is probably due to the combination of distinctive grain growth behavior between two perovskites PLSZNT and BT [14][15][16]25]. Fig.…”

“…It is therefore important to determine the properties of these materials as a function of applied stress. Previous investigations on the stress-dependent dielectric and electrical properties of many ceramic systems, such as BT, PZT, PMN, PMN-PT, PZT-BT, and PMN-PZT have clearly emphasized the importance of the subject [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. In this paper, the stress dependence of the ferroelectric properties of ceramics in PZT-PZN system is presented.…”

“…Despite, the discovery of many attractive properties in some perovskite structures including relaxor behavior in Pb(Mg 1/ 3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -PbTiO 3 , 7,8 Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 Pb(Zr 0.52 Ti 0.48 )O 3 , 9 and Pb(Zn 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -PbTiO 3 , 10 they have net been put to application due to their volatility and toxicity. So many researchers have attempted to overcome this problem by doping BaTiO 3 in the A or/and B sites to become a relaxor.…”
