Changes in bronchial inflammation during acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis

Abstract: There are little data describing noncellular changes in bronchial inflammation during exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. “…As neutrophils comprise the predominant infl ammatory cell in COPD airspaces and, as noted earlier, lymphocytic infi ltrates within lung tissue per se are highly correlated with disease severity, it follows that IL-8 could play a part in the development of emphysema.
