“…Pancreatic fistula after surgery for chronic pancreatitis is reported to vary from 3 to 8.3% [43, 44, 45, 46]. The incidence of pancreatic fistula following surgery for chronic pancreatitis in a series from Hamburg was 8 (5.2%) of 154 patients and 4 (11%) of 36 patients with extrahepatic portal hypertension compared to 4 (3%) of 118 patients without extrahepatic portal hypertension [47].…”

“…PPPD has also been demonstrated to be associated with a normal gastrointestinal hormonal milieu and a better weight gain postoperatively, and it has become a common procedure not only for benign but also for malignant disorders of the periampullary region . Moreover, the current data support the performance of PPPD in the surgical treatment of cancer of the pancreatic head .…”

“…In the second stage, the second portion of the duodenum and the head of the pancreas, with the distal common bile duct, were PPPD has also been demonstrated to be associated with a normal gastrointestinal hormonal milieu and a better weight gain postoperatively, and it has become a common procedure not only for benign but also for malignant disorders of the periampullary region. “…However, groove pancreatitis is likely more common than generally reported; in fact, in one large single-center study based on institution experience, it represented 70 % of the indications for PD in chronic pancreatitis patients [4,8,10]. Surgical removal of the affected ''groove area'' is a reliable way of relieving the pain and duodenal obstructive symptoms associated with this condition.…”

“…Jaundice is rare (see Table 1). Alcohol consumption appears to be the greatest risk factor due to increased viscosity of the pancreatic juices leading to increased back pressure through a disrupted minor pancreatic duct secondary to duodenal wall myoadenomatosis and fibrosis [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11].…”
