Changes in serum parameters associated with iron metabolism in male rat exposed to lead

Abstract: Due to the severe hazardous influences of lead (Pb(2+)) on iron-related diseases, the effects of Pb(2+) on serum parameters associated with iron metabolism have been studied in this project. Male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g were treated with Pb(2+) for the short and long period of times. The animals received daily intraperitoneal injection of 100 mg Pb(2+) kg(-1) body weight (BW) for 5 days and 4 mg kg(-1) BW of Pb(2+) for 30 and 45 days, respectively. The results show that when animals were treated with bo… Show more

“…In addition, lead has been reported to limit the transfer of iron from endosomes toward the cytoplasm (Qian et al, 1997). More recently, lead exposure in rats was reported to decrease serum iron and transferrin saturation levels (Moshtaghie et al, 2013). In workers exposed to lead, copper, and ceruloplasmin serum concentrations are increased, but no significant alteration in iron and zinc serum levels has been found (Kasperczyk et al, 2012).…”

“…Compared with the spectra of the free PAMPS-g-Ni 3 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 NTs shown in Fig. 3, new peaks of Pb 4f and Pb 4d were observed at 139.11 eV and 414.1 eV, respectively, in the total scans of the XPS spectra of the metals aer adsorption (Fig.…”

“…The preparation protocol for PAMPS-g-Ni 3 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 NTs included four main steps. In the rst step, the Ni 3 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 NTs were prepared by a hydrothermal reaction method as previously reported. 35 In the second step, the…”
