Changes in the expression of endothelial monocyte‑activating polypeptide II in the rat hippocampus following status epilepticus

Abstract: Endothelial monocyte-activating polypeptide II (EMAP II) is a sensitive marker of neurotoxic injury, the expression of which increases significantly under conditions of stress, such as hypoxia or apoptosis. Studies have confirmed the extensive apoptosis of nerve cells in the brain following status epilepticus (SE), and the occurrence of SE can confer a hypoxic state on cells. The purpose of the present study was to observe the changes in the expression of EMAP II, and in the numbers and tight junction protein … Show more

“…Next, the cells were washed with PBS and stained with an FITC-conjugated secondary antibody (Boster) for 2 h at 37 °C, followed by 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI, Boster) for 5 min in the dark. A magnification microscope (Zeiss X-Cite) was used to observe the stained cells at a 200× magnification [ 24 , 57 ]. Subsequently, ImageJ software (1.52a, Wayne Rasband, Bethesda, MD, USA) was used to process the fluorescent images [ 58 ].…”

“…To assess the alterations of tight junction proteins in the hippocampus, IF staining was performed following a previous report ( Li et al, 2021 ). The brain tissues (half, n = 6) were embedded in paraffin and sliced into 4 μm-thick sections.…”
