Channel characterization for power line communication in a hybrid electric vehicle

Abstract: In today's electric and conventional combustion engine vehicles, data communication between electronic control units is accomplished by sending communication signals over dedicated wires. The space requirement, weight, and installation costs for these wires can become significant, especially in electric vehicles (EVs) of the future, which are highly sophisticated electronic systems. The concept of reusing existing electricity wires, which are needed to power electronic components, for data communication, i.e.,… Show more

“…Furthermore, [3] shows that parasitic wireless propagation effects at high frequencies may enable communications even across open switches. Finally, the study in [4] a) describes an experimental campaign whose results, i.e., the scattering parameters, have been made available online, b) confirms the large attenuation evidenced by other works and c) points out a frequency selective behavior of the channel response.…”

“…which is also based on the received data-recovered OFDM symbolR * l (k i ). The estimation scheme Equation (7) spends more arctangent calculations with a performance superior to Equation (6). Since the performance of the DD estimation strategy depends heavily on the accuracy of symbol decision after equalization, the quality of channel estimation has a significant influence on the estimation accuracy.…”

“…Calculating Λ m in Equation (3) for m = 0, 1 needs 20N c − 4 flops since QPSK modulation is used. Finally, two flops are additionally needed to acquire the SFO estimate∆ s in Equation (6). Thus, the total computational complexity used in the conventional estimation scheme A is 20N c − 2.…”

“…The use of PLC is promising to in-vehicle applications which features enormous advantages in terms of weight, space and cost since it would remove most part of the wires [3]. Understanding the characteristics of power wires in vehicle as a communication channel has been the drive for many measurement campaigns [4], [5]. The findings show that in-vehicle power lines constitute a harsh and noisy transmission medium with Manuscript significant impulsive noise, e.g.…”
