“…Finally, permeation of various herbal constituents from herbal compress ball through tissues around the affected knee might play a crucial role for THC's therapeutic effects. Notably, analgesic and/or anti-inflammatory effects could be anticipated from the following constituents such as Zingiber cassumunar [59, 60], Curcuma longa [61, 62], Cymbopogon citratus [6365], Croton roxburghii [66], Tamarindus indica [67], Citrus hystrix [68], Blumea balsamifera [69, 70], Vitex trifolia [71], and camphor [72]. …”

“…Previous studies have demonstrated that inhibiting this transcription factor may be effective in the regulation of inflammatory processes especially in fever therapy as observed in LPS-or staphylococcal enterotoxin A-injected rabbits treated with NF-kB inhibitors (Lee et al, 2003;Shao et al, 2004). In our previous studies on Vitex trifolia, we have evaluated its anti-inflammatory effects against the LPS-induced overproduction of NO and upregulation of iNOS, IL-1-b, IL-6 and TNF-a genes in murine macrophage RAW 264.7 cells, respectively with 250 and 2500 mg/ml of plant extract (Kumar-Roiné et al, 2009;Matsui et al, 2009). In this study, we have further investigated the biological properties of this plant using PCR array system and we have shown that several LPS-induced inflammatory-related genes were down-regulated by Vitex trioflia extract at 5000 mg/ml.…”

“…Case reports of efficacy in treating ciguatera exist for amitriptyline (Bowman 1984;Davis and Villar 1986;Calvert et al 1987;Ruprecht et al 2001), nifedipine (Calvert et al 1987), gabapentin (Perez et al 2001), pregabalin (Brett and Murnion 2015), fluoxetine (Berlin et al 1992), and tocainide (Lange et al 1988), but these approaches are not widely used. Traditional remedies for ciguatera, usually prepared by a specific member of the village, also continue to be explored as possible treatments (Bourdy et al 1992;Kumar-Roine et al 2009Matsui et al 2009), although their placebo effect is expected to be significant. Unfortunately, randomized controlled clinical trials to confirm efficacy over placebo are lacking, in part reflecting the difficulty accessing ciguatera cases.…”
