Characteristics and Laboratory Freeze–thaw Test of Saline Soil in West Jilin, China

Abstract: Abstract. For the purpose of investigating the characteristic and material composition of saline soil in western Jilin, China the saline soil distribution area of Da'an in west Jilin Province was sampled during a site investigation, after which the fundamental properties of the soil were investigated in the laboratory. The soluble salt ranged from 0.28% to 0.60%, decreasing with depth from 0 to 40 cm blow the surface. Conversely, the moisture content increased with increasing depth, but showed little change be… Show more

“…Located in the hinterland of the Songnen Plain, the west of Jilin Province is one of China's most important grain-producing areas. Affected by natural and human factors, such as the semi-arid climate, high evaporation intensity, low and flat terrain, the rise of groundwater level, irrational development of agriculture and animal husbandry, and poor drainage, the soil in some areas of this region represents a severe salinization problem [9][10][11][12][13][14]. In this paper, the geochemical indicators of soil salinization in western Jilin Province (Baicheng, Taonan, Da'an, Zhenlai, Songyuan, Tongyu, Qian'an, and Qianguo) were selected as the study areas (Figure 1).…”

“…Western Jilin province is one of the areas in China most affected by soil salinization (Bao et al, 2018). Da'an City has the greatest level of salinization (Bian et al, 2014), and the issue of soil salinization has become a significant constraint on agricultural economic development (Litalien & Zeeb, 2020; Ramos et al, 2019).…”

“…Wang et al (2011) named the saline soil in western Jilin as dispersive soil and analyzed the influence factors of dispersibility and frost heaving characteristics. Bao et al (2018) took laboratory test of salin soil in west Jilin to find out t the frost-heaving rate of soil. This study aims to investigate the saline soil in Nong'an area of western Jilin, China.…”
