We thank Cheng et al. for their comments regarding our review on pregnant patients affected by coronavirus 1. We agree that our review came early in the pandemic. A rolling review conducted by Prof. Thornton and colleagues (https://ripe-tomato.org/2020/03/22/covid-19in-pregnancy/) indicates that, as of 13 May 2020, 806 women had been reported to be affected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in pregnancy, and of these, 457 had delivered and were alive, 80 had become seriously unwell and, sadly, 21 (2%) had died. These data support our suggestion that the maternal mortality of SARS-CoV-2 seems to be lower than that of severe acute respiratory syndrome
