Characteristics of acquired reactive perforating collagenosis

Abstract: The status of the patient's associated disease can generally affect the onset or healing of acquired reactive perforating collagenosis (ARPC). We treated eight cases of ARPC and noted that the patients had similar findings. However, it was not clear why ARPC developed in the patients with these diseases. Nevertheless, several factors related to the diseases associated with ARPC could affect the degeneration of collagen fibers or the production of dermal products. Some patients had diseases that were characteri… Show more

“…[10] Of these patients, the most common associated diseases were diabetes mellitus (DM, type 1, and type 2 were both reported) and complications of DM, including chronic renal failure, cardiopathy, and retinopathy. [1116] Some autoimmune diseases were regarded to be associated as well, such as systemic lupus erythematous, [17] vasculitis, [18,19] dermatomyositis, [6,20] and Mikulicz disease (an IgG4-related disease). [21] Moreover, some malignancies, including lymphoma, thyroid carcinoma, and breast carcinoma, were also reported as coexisting diseases.…”

“…Thus, the TGF-b signaling pathway, which orchestrates wound repair, may be important for tissue remodeling in ARPC. 9,10 The present study was initiated to evaluate clinical features of ARPC and to characterize the expression profiles of proteins in this disease that are involved in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and wound repair.…”

“…APC tends to occur in adults, usually related to diseases with a long-term outcome such as chronic renal failure or diabetes mellitus and less frequently in chronic hepatopathy, hematologic malignancies and solid neoplasia. Finally, there is a wide variety of perforating dermatoses called secondary dermatosis, in which transepidermal elimination of connective tissue fibers occurs secondary to other basic dermatological conditions such as mycotic infections, granulomas or skin neoplasm [1, 2, 3]. …”
