Characteristics of liposomes derived from egg yolk

Abstract: Liposomes are nanocapsules successfully applied in pharmacy and medicine. Their usage in the food industry could be increased by the development of alternative, cost-efficient lecithin materials. This work is a continuation of the previous two papers describing five different extractions of egg yolk lecithins and the preassessment of their usefulness for liposome formation. Physicochemical properties of extracts differed due to distinct composition. The aim of this research was to further characterise the extr… Show more

“…The BD FACS Aria Aria TM III (Becton Dickinson, Franklin Lake, NJ, USA) flow cytometer (cell sorter), equipped with 4 lasers (375, 405, 488, and 633 nm) and 11 fluorescence detectors, both forward scatter (FSC) and side scatter (SSC) detectors, was used [24]. The redox potential determines the internal metabolic activity of cells.…”

“…Liposomes are microscopic bilayer vesicles made from phospholipids dispersed in aqueous media. Exploration on liposomes from various natural resources has been conducted to acquire the desired results [9][10][11][12][13][14]. At present, an ongoing exploration of natural liposomes is the cocoliposome, which is made from CocoPLs [15][16][17].…”

“…The lipid components of the liposomes determine the rigidity, fluidity, and surface charge and, consequently, their ability to be loaded with bioactive compounds and release them [ 62 ]. For instance, the use of unsaturated lipids, such as phosphatidylcholines from natural sources (egg or soy lecithin), results in relatively permeable liposomes [ 63 ]. On the other hand, cholesterol molecules are also known to modulate membrane rigidity properties.…”
