“…Lightning characteristics had been studied in Beijing, Tibet Plateau, and Guangdong [Chen et al, 2004;Qie et al, 1991Qie et al, , 2002. Both natural lightning and artificial-triggered lightning had been used to study the physical processes of lightning and electric charge structure of thunderstorm [Lü et al, 2012;Qie et al, 2006Qie et al, , 2009Zhang et al, 2014]. However, observation-based investigation of lightning activities and characteristics for the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region and other regions in China has not been performed.…”

“…The Figure 1 depicts a typical channel base current waveform for a negative subsequent return stroke observed in a triggered lightning session in China [8]. The figure also shows the 10%-90% rise time and half peak width.…”

“…Figure 2(b) and Figure 3(a) show typical subsequent stroke current waveforms measured in triggered lightning session in Florida, USA. It has been observed in several studies that the impulse duration of subsequent strokes tends to decrease with increase in amplitude [1,8]. Figure 1.…”

“…Expressions relating radiated fields and return stroke channel base currents have been derived for various "engineering" return stroke models (Rakov and Uman, 1998 ). Based on the transmission line (TL) model, for an observation point at ground level, the radiated (far) electric and magnetic fields produced by a vertical lightning channel terminated directly at ground are simply proportional to the channel base current (Uman et al, 1975;Qie et al, 2007Qie et al, , 2009Qie et al, , 2011Yang et al, 2010), with the proportionality coefficient being determined for strike to flat ground with the perfect conductivity.…”
