Characteristics of x-ray radiation by a nonequilibrium energetic electron flow emerged from a formed ferrite filament

Abstract: This article reports the observation of intense x-ray emission by a nonequilibrium energetic electron flow that can be produced when an explosive formed-ferrite filament is used as a plasma initiator in a high vacuum of 10−5–10−3 Torr. Exposure dose measurements and pinhole photographs for the x-ray emission have shown that x rays originate linearly along a 14.5-cm filament with a high exposure dose level of 50 mR(mili-roentgen)/pulse at 6.5 keV, the predominant x-ray energy. The x-ray emission characteristics… Show more

“…In this mode, intense electron-ion emission occurred, electrons falling into a strong electric field formed beams of fast electrons that excited highenergy states of atoms and ions, followed by the emission of x-rays. This radiation was observed in [3] perpendicular to the ferrite surface and did not have a pronounced directivity.…”

“…The appearance of x-ray radiation from electrical discharges is now well known. Thus, in [3], an x-ray pulse was registered during the study of a formed-ferrite-flash plasma (initial voltage ∼30 kV, discharge gap length 14.5 cm). Its * Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed.…”

“…Radiation above ferrite surface in pulse discharge along it was researched in many works, such as, for example, [1][2][3][4][5]. However, only in [6] properties of radiation directed along the discharge on BIN experimental setup [1,6] were studied.…”
