Characterization and expression pattern of IbPRP1 and IbPRP2 stress-related genes from sweetpotato

Abstract: Two putative stress-related genes were isolated from sweetpotato and were designated as IbPRP1 and IbPRP2 (Ipomoea batatas proline-rich proteins 1 and 2). The deduced amino acid aligment of IbPRP1 and IbPRP2 shows that these two genes belong to the AAI_LTSS superfamily. Proteins in this family are known to play primary roles including defending plants from pathogens and insects, lipid transport between intracellular membranes, and nutrient storage. The mRNA expression of IbPRP1 and IbPRP2 were investigated and… Show more

“…There were many interesting potential functions amongst this narrowed down set, which include several sugar transporters, two separate homologs to coumarate-coA ligases, two genes involved in glutathione S-conjugation, and several stress response genes. Other studies have found other genes such as FBA1 [ 52 ], BURP [ 53 , 54 ], USP [ 55 ], GH16_XET [ 56 ], CYP707 gene family [ 57 ], HSF [ 58 ], AAI_LTSS [ 59 ] (Additional file 1 : Table S1) to be involved in drought resistance that we would have expected to be important in this study but did not show species-specific signatures in this study. The genes we report these here so that future studies of local adaptation might use them for comparison.…”

“…nsLTP1 transport cutin monomers while nsLTP2s are involved in the conveyance of the more rigid suberin monomers (Douliez et al, 2000). But these two proteins belong to the AAI_LTSS (Alpha Amylase Inhibitors (AAI), Lipid Transfer (LT), and Seed Storage (SS)) super family (Seo et al, 2010) (Fig. 2).…”

“…When we considered the degradation of MdPRP6 as a potential reason to explain the regulation of MdRAD23D1 under drought stress, we met with a new problem: what was the role of MdPRP6 in apple plants experiencing drought stress? It is known that PRPs are a type of cell wall structural protein that play important roles in coping with various stresses in different species (Li et al ., 2016 ; Mellacheruvu et al ., 2016 ; Priyanka et al ., 2010 ; Seo et al ., 2011 ). HyPRP1 negatively regulates salt and oxidative stress responses in tomatoes ( Solanum lycopersicum ) by modulating sulfite metabolism (Li et al ., 2016 ).…”
