Abstract:Lyme disease is a tick-borne infection caused by the spirocheteBorrelia(Borreliella)burgdorferi.Borreliaspecies have highly fragmented genomes composed of a linear chromosome and a constellation of linear and circular plasmids that encode diverse outer membrane lipoproteins, which facilitate movement of the spirochete between its tick vector and a vertebrate host in an enzootic cycle. TheB. burgdorferigenome shows evidence of horizontal transfer between strains, but the mechanisms remain poorly defined. Almost… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
