Characterization and thermal studies of nano‐synthesized Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes with adipohydrazone ligand as new promising antimicrobial and antitumor agents

Abstract: New seven complexes of N 1 ,N 6 -bis((2-hydroxynaphthalin-1-yl)methinyl)) adipohydrazone (H 2 L) with MnCl 2 •4H 2 O, CoCl 2 •6H 2 O, NiCl 2 •6H 2 O, CuCl 2 •2H 2 O, Cu(NO 3 ) 2 •3H 2 O, CuSO 4 •5H 2 O, and Cu(OAc) 2 •2H 2 O have beenprepared and characterized by the aid of elemental and thermal analyses, spectra (FT-IR, 1 H NMR, MS, UV-Vis, ESR, X-ray powder diffraction), molar conductance and magnetic moment measurements. The XRD results unambiguously confirmed the nano-sized particles of the complexes. The … Show more

“…It is apparent that most inspected materials displayed an inhibition of cell viability and increased cytotoxic influence towards MCF‐7 according to the following order: H 2 L < complex 4 < complex 2 < complex 5 < complex 3 < complex 1 . These results indicate that the type of metal ions and the nature of the ligand are the key factors affecting the anticancer efficiency of the metallic compounds . The Cu(II) complex exhibited IC 50 of 3.47 μg ml −1 (5.53 μM), greater than that of the well‐known standard drug cisplatin (IC 50 = 3.67 μg ml −1 (12.23 μM)), towards HepG‐2 cells.…”

“…In the spectra complexes 1 ─ 4 , the broad band around 3429–3440 cm −1 are attributed to the presence of coordinated water. Appearance of non‐ligand bands ranging between 603–612 cm −1 and 433–504 cm −1 in the complexes are characteristic of M‐O and M‐N bands, respectively …”

“…TGA (thermal gravimetric analysis) of complexes 1 – 4 were investigated (under nitrogen as atmosphere) using a Shimadzu TG‐50 thermal analyzer from ambient temperature up to 800 ο C (with 10 ο C/min heating rate). Antifungal and antimicrobial activities of all compounds under interest were examined at Micro‐Analytical Center, Cairo University applying a modified Kirby‐Bauer disc diffusion method . Evaluation of the antitumor activities of the investigated compounds against human liver Carcinoma cell lines (HEPG2) was carried out at the Regional Center for Microbiology and Biotechnology (Al‐Azhar University) using the well‐known recommended method …”

“…It is apparent from presented outcomes that, most inspected materials displayed an inhibition of cell viability and increasing the cytotoxic influences related to examined compounds towards MCF‐7 according to the next orders; HL < Mn (II) compound 1 < Co (II) compound 2 < Zn (II) compound 5 < Pt (IV) compound 6 < Ni (II) compound 3 < Cu (II) compound 4. These results denote that the type metal ions and the nature ligand are the key factors the anticancer efficiency of the metallic compounds . Cu (II) complex 1 exhibited IC 50 equals 3.58 μg/ml greater than the well‐known standard drug cis‐platin (IC 50 = 3.87 μg/ml), towards HepG‐2 cells.…”
