Characterization of 10 new nuclear microsatellite markers in Acca sellowiana (Myrtaceae)

Abstract: • Premise of the study: Microsatellite primers were identified and characterized in Acca sellowiana in order to expand the limited number of pre-existing polymorphic markers for use in population genetic studies for conservation, phylogeography, breeding, and domestication.• Methods and Results: A total of 10 polymorphic microsatellite primers were designed from clones obtained from a simple sequence repeat (SSR)–enriched genomic library. The primers amplified di- and trinucleotide repeats with four to 27 alle… Show more

“…Advancements have enabled a more effective production of feijoa in Brazil, especially regarding its management (Coradin et al, 2012). Studies also focused on the species' genetics (Borsuk et al, 2017, Klabunde et al, 2014 and morphological aspects (Sarmento et al, 2018). Nonetheless, studies on its cultivation and development in Brazil are still scarce (Nava et al, 2016).…”

“…As a minor crop, genomic resources in A. sellowiana are limited and not yet useful in breeding programs. Few studies document the molecular diversity of the species using lowthroughput molecular markers (Dettori and Palombi, 2000;dos Santos et al, 2007;Pasquariello et al, 2015;Donazzolo et al, 2020;Saifert et al, 2020) and a limited number of molecular markers have been specifically designed for A. sellowiana (dos Santos et al, 2008;Klabunde et al, 2014). Amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLP), intersimple sequence repeat (ISSR), and a small number of simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers were used in the construction on the first genetic map of the species (Quezada et al, 2014).…”
