“…Concentrations of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO 2 ) were negatively related to the NAOI in the city of Gothenburg, west Sweden during the winter months for the period 1997-2006 [19]. In our multivariate model, concentrations of ozone, PM 10 and CO were included but we did not adjust for the impact of other pollutants.…”

“…As the quintiles of the daily NAOI were −1.01, −0.49, −0.06 and 0.43 during the study period and the non-linear impact of the NAO is probable, we used the NAOI as categorical variable with categories: ≤−1, (−1, −0.5], (−0.5, 0], (0, 0.5] and >0.5. As confounders, we used the non-linear variables of air temperature (T, • C), wind speed (WS, kt), barometric pressure (BP, hPA) and relative humidity (RH, %), low and active-stormy geomagnetic activity levels, high-speed solar wind (HSSW), daily concentrations of ozone and PM 10 and the highest 8-h moving average of CO concentration. These variables are described in more detail in previous publications [15,16].…”

“…For comparison in Central Europe the highest PNC values in this size range were measured at the K-Puszta and Kosetice stations, 2 700 and 2 420 cm -3 , respectively. It should be considered that in clean environments the PNC concentrations usually decrease during the autumn [29,34], and in the Aukštaitija IMS dataset the autumn data was underrepresented. Collecting more data from the SMPS measurement in autumn would have decreased PNC values for the whole campaign, in general.…”

“…Several studies investigated the presence and variability of trace gases and aerosol particles in the Baltic Sea region with in-situ ground observations (Kikas et al, 1996;Ku smierczyk-Michulec et al, 2001;Ovadnevait_ e et al, 2007;Kikas et al, 2008) and shipborne observations (Plau skait_ e et al, 2017). The influence of intense marine traffic along the shipping corridors on the presence and properties of atmospheric pollutants (defined as 'shipping corridor effect'; Schlager et al, 2006) in the Baltic Sea was assessed from coastal ground based observations only (Kecorius et al, 2016;Ausmeel et al, 2019).…”
