“…Some of these developments are showcased in this special feature of Measurement Science and Technology which contains seven papers that were presented at ICPT 2020. Two papers report on new phosphors and thermometry methods which function at very different temperature ranges: 10-350 K, useful for studies of cryogenic and physiological systems [8]; and up to 1400 K for the study of intermediate-temperature reacting gas flows [9]. Both studies are fine examples of selecting host-dopant combinations to tailor the luminescence characteristics for the application of interest based on an understanding of the material electronic structure and properties.…”
