Abstract:Variation in strigolactone composition in sorghum root exudates underlies its resistance to the parasitic weed, Striga hermonthica. Root exudates of the Striga susceptible variety Shanqui Red (SQR) contain primarily 5-deoxystrigol, which has a high efficiency of inducing Striga germination.
