Characterization of Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers in Polymer Matrix Using Terahertz Time‐Domain Spectroscopy

Abstract: Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) technique allows us to analyze plastic additives. A series of hindered amine light stabilizers (HALSs), including TMP, PMP, BB-PMP, Chimassorb 944 and 119, and a nitroxide free radical of 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1piperidinyloxy (HTEMPO) in the matrix of high-density polyethylene are characterized in the range of 0.2-2.6 THz. TMP, PMP, and BB-PMP exhibit individual well-resolved terahertz (THz) absorption spectra at room temperature. Furthermore, a linear relat… Show more

“…At the same time, hydration state can also be evaluated from the reduction in the response of bulk water, which is simply replaced by the corresponding amount of hydrated water. 33 However, despite the recent application of THz spectroscopy to various fields, [37][38][39] characterization of the water HB network has been restricted due to the strong absorption of water in the THz region. To overcome this problem, attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectroscopy will be a strong tool to precisely determine the complex dielectric constant of aqueous samples, reducing the strong absorption of water.…”

“…Terahertz (THz) spectra were obtained using the Terahertz time‐domain spectroscopy (THz‐TDS) technique (Figure S6) 25h,i. A mode‐locked Ti:sapphire laser (Coherent Company) was used to produce optical pulses with a time width less than 100 fs and a wave‐length of 800 nm at a repetition rate of 82 MHz.…”

“…Non-covalent forces in molecules can be identified by several characterization techniques such as single-crystal X-ray diffractions, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), STM characterization, CD spectra, and terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) [34] and visualized by theoretical methods. Generally, conformation complexity is higher in polymers The fourth characteristic is non-covalent interactions, which are basic self-recognizing forces in molecular semiconductors.…”
