Characterization of Hot Deformation Behavior of Ti-4.5Al-3V-2Mo-2Fe Titanium Alloy

Abstract: The hot deformation behavior of Ti-4.5Al-3V-2Mo-2Fe (SP-700) titanium alloy in the temperature range of 650°C~950°C and constant strain rate of 0.01, 0.1, 1 and 10s-1 has been investigated by hot compressive testing on the Gleeble-1500D thermal simulation test machine. The experimental results indicated that the hot deformation behavior of SP-700 alloy was sensitive to the deformation temperature and strain rate. The peak flow stress decreased with the increase of temperature and the decrease of strain rate. T… Show more

“…The region with a high value is not necessarily a safe processing region, and further analysis should be done with the instability parameter [45]. According to the definition of DMM model, the instability criterion of material during thermal deformation can be expressed as: When the value is less than 0, internal instability will occur inside the material.…”

“…The hot deformation mechanism of titanium and titanium alloy is closely related to strain rate. The relation between stress and strain rate had been analyzed by the equation which have been reported widely in references [15][16][17] as follows:…”

“…Taking the natural logarithm for Eqn. (5) , and the following eqution can be obtained as: (10) Then the value of n2 can be obtained as: (11) The deformation activation energy Q (J/mol) of the alloy can be calculated [15]: calculated deformation activation energy (12) The relation of vs. Insin[h(ασ)] were given in Fig. 5, n2 had been estimated of 2.74552 and 2.57437 in two-phase and single-phase region respectively.…”

“…But even if the h of an area is high, it does not necessarily mean it is safe for processing, as further analysis needs to be conducted on the instability parameter έ ( ) x [37]. From the definition of the DMM model, the instability criterion of materials in the process of thermal deformation can be expressed as follows:…”
