Characterization ofblaTEM-52-Carrying Plasmids of Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamase-Producing Salmonella enterica Isolates from Chicken Meat with a Common Supplier in Japan

Abstract: The acquisition of resistance to cephalosporins among Salmonella spp. is a major public health concern. This study identified clonal plasmids carrying bla TEM-52 from 10 Salmonella enterica serovar Infantis and Manhattan isolates from retail chicken meats that originated from a common supplier in Japan. Whole-genome analyses of the representative plasmids, including pYM4, revealed that they are 38 kb in size and that pYM4 is identical to pDKX1 from beef in Denmark, suggesting a global dissemination of resistan… Show more

“…The TEM sort βlactamase was named after the E. coli contaminated patient, Temoneira, in Athens, Greece (Aljanaby and Aljanaby, 2018a). What's more, the bla-tem quality (encoding the protein) is normally found on plasmids (Matsumoto et al, 2014). In current study out of 30 isolates, there were 15 isolates with percentage rate (50%) were positive for bla-tem gene.…”

“…In our study, we note that the ampicillin-resistant isolate carried the plasmid Inc X-1 additional to plasmid virulence genes Inc F. This result suggests that IncX plasmid can carry bla TEM-1B gene. The association of Inc X-1 conjugative plasmids with bla TEM genes was previously described by Matsumoto et al., al. (2014) which showed that the bla TEM gene has been found to be located on a 38-kb Inc X-1 plasmid ( Matsumoto et al., 2014 ).…”

“…Nevertheless, the high similarities between the isolates and/or the MGEs carrying ARGs between countries support the intercontinental dissemination of these elements despite the surveillance monitoring system efforts put in place by national and international organizations. For example, all the sequenced Salmonella isolates collected from retail chicken meat ( n = 10) in Japan between 2005 and 2012 harbored IncX-type plasmids, which were identical to the pDKX1 plasmid first identified in E. coli in Denmark in 2011 (Johnson et al , 2012; Matsumoto et al , 2014). Also, the majority of the MDR Salmonella isolated from Burkina Faso (60%) belong to the sequence type ST19, which is a frequent sequence type detected in Europe and America (Kagambèga et al , 2018).…”
