Characterization of proton conducting poly[ethylene oxide]: Poly[vinyl pyrrolidone] based polymer blend electrolytes for electrochemical devices

Abstract: Proton conducting solid polymer electrolytes comprising PEO: PVP blend with ammonium nitrate in different compositions are prepared by solution casting technique and they are characterized with different techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows that the prepared polymer electrolytes have amorphous nature. Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy confirms the functional groups present in the polymer membranes. The scanning electron microscopical(SEM) images confirm the presence of smooth surface in the po… Show more

“…In these studies, the formation of semicircle has two distinct regions, one is higher frequency that denotes the parallel combination of capacitor and bulk resistance because of migrations of protons and another one is spike at low frequency because of polarization between electrolyte and electrode interaction. 23,36 Generally, depressed semicircle indicates the decrease of bulk resistance by adding polymers and salt. In present work the salt ratio is taken as constant because Sundar et al 20 has already reported that 2% of ammonium ceric nitrate gives better conductivity.…”

“…In this work, NH 4 Cl salt at different concentrations were added to the PVA:MC blend of electrolytes to increase the ionic conductivity and enhance the electrochemical properties. M Muthuvinayagam and K Sundaramahalingam [ 20 ] prepared proton-conducting SPEs comprising a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO):polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) blend with ammonium nitrate (NH 4 NO 3 ). The authors obtained the ionic conductivity of a 6.39 × 10 −5 S/cm for 12 wt% NH 4 NO 3 doped polymer system at room temperature.…”

“…Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is a nontoxic water-soluble polymer and other polar solvents. It was used in several technological and medical applications [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) represents one of the famous polymers, which has a wide range of applications, such as packing and biomedical and medical applications [9,10].…”

“…It has also some natural characterization, including nontoxicity, chemical resistance biocompatibility, and hydrophilicity. e polymer blend of synthetic polymers such as PVP and PVA is very important for various applications, such as electrochemical devices [3], heat transfer [11], wound healing [12][13][14], tissue engineering [15,16], biological medical applications [3,4], arti cial skin [16], and composite membranes [17,18]. In addition, several attempts have been made to prepare the blends or composite materials based on PVP and PVA doped with other elements [19][20][21][22].…”
