Characterization of the Goose CAPN3 Gene and its Expression Pattern in Muscle Tissues of Sichuan White Geese at Different Growth Stages

Abstract: Calpain 3 (CAPN3), also known as p94, is associated with multiple production traits in domestic animals. However, the molecular characteristics of the CAPN3 gene and its expression profile in goose tissues have not been reported. In this study, CAPN3 cDNA of the Sichuan white goose was cloned, sequenced, and characterized. The CAPN3 full-length cDNA sequence consists of a 2,316-bp coding sequence (CDS) that encodes 771 amino acids with a molecular mass of 89,019 kDa. The protein was predicted to have no signal… Show more

“…In the case of the BW-43 DEGs of Start-EW, Calpain 3 (CAPN3) was abundantly expressed in the muscle of growing poultry, which was presumed to acted in development-related functions of muscle, such as control of skeletal cell proliferation or differentiation [ 34 ]. Growth-associated protein 43 (GAP43), known as neuromodulin, was involved in regulating the neuromast growth and actin cytoskeleton in neuronal cell lines, and acted as an integral part of the cortical cytoskeleton, influencing the cell surface weight and surface accumulation pattern of axonal growth cones [ 35 , 36 ].…”

“…Because of the short reproductive periods, low hatchability, and high embryo mortality of geese, goose farming industry is not as prosperous as broilers industry ( Tai et al, 2001 ; Rosinski et al, 2006a , b ). However, it is reported that the content of protein and trace elements in the meat of goose is higher than in other poultry products ( Xu et al, 2018 ). Therefore, goose husbandry has great economic prospects.…”

“…Goose is one of the important commercial meat sources, which is rich in protein and a variety of trace elements ( Xu et al, 2018 ). Goose, as a nutritious and healthy food resource, has been widely raised around the world ( Kumbar et al, 2016 ).…”
