The leather industrial wastewaters are a major source of water pollution among all industrial sector considering both quantity and composition. This research study was focused on the current chemical and physical parameters of tannery wastewater and treatment processes through sawdust filter media and ferric oxide (Fe2O3) coagulant. The study found that tannery wastewater contained exceptionally high values of TDS, TSS, TS, BOD, COD, SO42-, Cl-, Na, Ca, chromium, lead, cadmium and arsenic and theses parameters of the composite were exceeded the standard discharge limits which are considered as toxicants for the environment. The wastewaters were filtered by saw-dust filtration processes and then treated with different dosage of Fe2O3. The experiment elucidated that the filtration technique could minimize certain amount of toxicant load from the wastewater but not efficient enough to practise the technique alone using as wastewater treatment. The chemical interaction with 100 mg/L coagulant (Fe2O3) dosage at pH~9 showed the best result of the major parameters. The study suggested that both combined physical (filtration) and chemical (Fe2O3, coagulants) treatment processes could be fruitful to reduce the toxicants load from tannery wastewater.

Oily wastewater consists of fats, oils and greases together with a broad spectrum of dissolved organic and/or inorganic substances in suspension. It is regarded as one of the most hazardous wastewaters, causing serious environmental and health threats to the ecosystems, flora and fauna. The global increase in the discharge of oily wastewater coupled with stringent regulations for effluent discharge and incessant drive for re-use of treated wastewater necessitate the need for treatment of the wastewater. Conventional approaches employed in the past are inept for oily wastewater treatment due to low treatment efficiency and high operational costs, among others, hence the need for adoption of advanced technologies as promising alternatives to existing treatment systems for oily wastewater. Furthermore, the use of combined treatment processes is effective for the removal of hazardous pollutants present in high-strength oily wastewater. This review provides insights into advanced and emerging state-of-the-art technologies for safe and efficient treatment of industrial oily wastewater.

Occupational health and safety in work life has still alarming statistics around the world. Despite the fact that leather business seems being affected by mechanization, human power has important role for it. Workers in tanning processes frequently encounter physical and chemical risks. Therefore, the determination of employee consciousness and the arrangement of trainings for it are important for this sector which is included in the category 'Very risky work'. In our study, the population has been determined as active firms in Uşak Mixed-Organized Leather Industry, the awareness level of physical and chemical risks of 220 employees in 10 firms that accepted to take part in the survey has been examined and observed. Frequency, percentage and factor analysis and correlation tests were applied on the data in SPSS 22.0 programme. The Cronbach alpha values of the dimensions were found to be 0.681 in the physical risk dimension and 0.822 in the chemical risk dimension. According to the research of it can be said that the reliability of chemical risk factors is high and that the physical risk factors are medium reliability. The physical risk and chemical risk perceptions of workers in the survey are moderate/high. It has been observed that most of the services that are made compulsory by the state sanctions have been provided by the state sanctions, but it has been determined that there are still some deficiencies in some parts due to the situation such as the education level of the employees.
