Characterization of X3 Silicon Detectors for the ELISSA Array at ELI-NP

Abstract: Abstract. Position-sensitive silicon strip detectors represent one of the best solutions for the detection of charged particles as they provide good energy and position resolution over a large range of energies. A silicon array coupled with the gamma beams at the ELI-NP facility would allow measuring photodissociation reactions of interest for Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and on heavy nuclei intervening in the p-process. Forty X3 detectors for our ELISSA (ELI-NP Silicon Strip Detectors Array) project have been rec… Show more

“…The data are plotted after applying a Gaussian smearing with an energy-dependent sigma in order to simulate the detector energy resolution as reported from Micron and calculated in [9,10]. Despite the straggling in the target, the expected alpha-signal is well separated from the proton one, which in turn is (calculated to be) much greater, by nearly 9 orders of magnitude.…”

“…Such configuration ensures a total angular coverage of 20 ≤ θ ≤ 160 in the laboratory system. Furthermore, the prototype of ELISSA has been constructed and tested at INFN-LNS with the α particle source and the 11 MeV 7 Li beam, and the preliminary experimental results show that the energy resolution is less than 1% and the position resolution reaches 1 mm [65][66][67][68].…”
