A value-added-oriented (VAO) BIM climate is the organizational climate of BIM value-added. However, a lack of research on VAO BIM climate has thwarted progress on BIM knowledge systems. By using the socio-technical systems approach and the competing value approach, 12 dimensions and 39 indicators of a VAO BIM climate are proposed and tested using 306 questionnaires collected from workers engaged in BIM construction projects across China. Data was analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis. The results show that the proposed dimensions and indicators are highly reliable and valid. The VAO BIM climate is heavily influenced by autonomy, career development, and task orientation. The top 10 indicators were mainly related to participation, task orientation, and goal effectiveness. And the MWD-BIM, RCS-BIM, CDMT-BIM, and SMD-BIM were mistaken as key indicators of participation, autonomy, peer relations, and organizational adaptability, respectively. The proposed dimensions and indicators can be used to advance scholarly understanding and theory on BIM climate in construction projects through directing resource allocation, enhancing the understanding of human–BIM interactions, improving the BIM knowledge system and facilitating decision framework of BIM adoption. Practical implications for managers in construction projects are provided in the end.

ResumoBuilding Information Modelling é um processo que altera de forma representativa a indústria AEC (Arquitetura, Engenharia e Construção). As aplicabilidades do BIM atingem todo o ciclo de vida das edificações, trazendo resultados mais eficazes que os métodos tradicionais. Sendo assim, o setor tenta se adaptar buscando sua adoção. Porém, essa deve ser gradual, visto que os processos tradicionais são diferentes dos propostos pelo BIM. Para tal, existem ferramentas que podem auxiliar na condução de sua implantação. Dentre elas, a avaliação da maturidade da implementação, proposta por Bilal Succar em trabalho de título "Building Information Modelling Maturity Matrix". Esse analisa, através de uma matriz de maturidade, o avanço do processo de adoção da tecnologia em questão. O presente artigo tem como objetivo avaliar a maturidade da implementação BIM no Departamento Nacional de Infraestrutura em Transportes do Brasil, utilizando-se de tal metodologia. Os resultados mostraram que a metodologia internacional pode ter aplicabilidade e trazer benefícios a esse contexto dos órgãos públicos brasileiros, orientando-os a uma implantação eficiente. As matrizes apresentaram uma maturidade entre a fase baixa e média. Porém, o progresso do órgão tende a evoluir rapidamente, visto que existem ações em fase de desenvolvimento, que tenderão ao avanço da situação atual.

The interface between construction and production is an area of research with rising importance given its increasing demand for efficiency gains in factory planning and construction planning processes. In fact, nowadays, it is usual for production and surrounding buildings to be planned separately as independent entities. According to the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering of RWTH Aachen University, it is against this background that recent factory planning projects have reported cost increases and time delays due to non-transparent information between different planners. Building Information Modelling (BIM) addresses precisely this problem. However, BIM is barely used in projects for production planning of factories. This is critical since factory planning has to deal with more complex planning parameters (due to the technical building equipment) compared to private housing construction or public building construction, where BIM is already being applied increasingly. In order to close this gap, it is first of all important to create transparency within the individual information interfaces between production planning and building planning. This article addresses this issue and identifies major obstacles in interdisciplinary cooperation between building planners and production planners. For this purpose, an interdisciplinary and partially standardised study has been carried out using questionnaires and partly-open expert interviews. The results show scarce implementation in factory planning projects due to (1) missing maturity level specifications and (2) missing data management standards. Both theoretical and practical implications of this study as well as limitations and future directions for research are discussed.
