Les troubles de stress et d'anxiété chez des élèves adolescents en JordanieRÉSUMÉ Les troubles mentaux chez les adolescents ont des impacts négatifs sur des aspects concernant la santé et la vie quotidienne, mais les données relatives à leur prévalence manquent en Jordanie. La présente étude avait pour objectif d'estimer la prévalence des troubles de stress et d'anxiété et d'enquêter sur leur association avec le sexe et d'autres facteurs socio-démographiques chez des élèves adolescents. Une conception transversale descriptive à été utilisée dans cette étude. Un échantillon composé de 1103 élèves adolescents ayant terminé les deux premières sections du questionnaire de santé du patient pour les adolescents a été recruté dans des écoles. La prévalence des troubles mentaux était de 28,6 %. La prévalence des troubles de stress et d'anxiété était respectivement de 22,4 % et 16,3 %. Des associations significatives ont été trouvées entre les troubles mentaux et le sexe, l'âge, le fait d'habiter avec ses parents ou l'état de santé mentale des parents. D'autres études doivent être réalisées en Jordanie pour comprendre la nature et les facteurs de risque des troubles mentaux chez les adolescents. Des programmes de dépistage, de promotion et prévention dans le domaine de la santé mentale en milieu scolaire et communautaire sont recommandés pour prévenir et réduire la prévalence des troubles mentaux chez les adolescents. ABSTRACT Mental disorders in adolescents have negative impacts on aspects of health and life that can be reduced by early detection and referral. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of mood and anxiety disorders and to investigate their association with gender and other socio-demographic factors among adolescent students. A descriptive cross-sectional design was used in this study. A sample of 1103 adolescent students was recruited from schools who completed the first two sections of Patient Health Questionnaire for Adolescents (PHQ-A). The prevalence of any mental disorders was 28.6%. The prevalence of mood and anxiety disorders was 22.4% and 16.3%, respectively. Significant associations were found between mental disorders and gender, age, living status with parents, or mental health status of parents. Further studies are needed to be conducted in Jordan in order to understand the nature and risk factors of mental disorders among adolescents. A Study on Prevalence of Anxiety Disorders Among Higher Secondary School Students

Anxiety disorders are very common in secondary school children with little epidemiological data from countries like India. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of anxiety disorders in higher secondary school students using Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) questionnaire. Methodology: The study was conducted in July 2014 and 100 students belonging to class 11 and class 12 of a higher secondary school at Tiptur were included in the study. The SCARED questionnaires were used to assess anxiety in these children. Results: In this study, 37% were found to have anxiety disorder (p value <0.001). Of these majority (58%) were females which was significant. Of the 100 children, 64% had PN (panic disorder), 10% had GD (generalized anxiety disorder), 53% had SP (separation anxiety), 15% had SC (social anxiety disorder) and 16% had SH (significant school avoidance). Hence in this study, panic disorder and separation anxiety were found to be highly prevalent. In this study of the children who had anxiety, majority of these children's mothers (79%) and majority of the children's fathers were illiterate (54%). In this study, of the children with anxiety, 76% belonged to nuclear family and majority i.e. 84% belonged to rural area. Conclusion: This study shows the high prevalence of undiagnosed depression and anxiety disorders among adolescents and hence the need for them. Early interventions can provide long-term health and socioeconomic benefits by prevention of the onset of mental health problems and their development into chronic disorders.

Background: Reports of anxiety disorder characteristics among youth in clinical settings typically include descriptions of patients who have been specifically referred for anxiety treatment. At odds with a large body of evidence which demonstrates these disorders to be most common among young people, prevalence studies in samples referred to general psychiatry for multiple causes are scarce and report highly discrepant estimates. Methods: For this study and regardless of their presenting symptoms, 125 adolescents (57.6% girls) between the ages of 12 and 18 years who were consecutively referred to two child and adolescent general psychiatry clinics in Sweden were assessed for anxiety disorders and comorbidity using the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children. Self-ratings of anxiety symptoms and difficulties with family, school, friends, sleep, and body aches were also obtained. Results: At least one anxiety disorder was found in 46% of participants. Among anxious adolescents, homotypic comorbidity (concurrent anxiety) was observed in 43%, and heterotypic comorbidity (concurrent non-anxiety psychiatric disorders) was observed in 91%. No comorbidity was observed in 5%. Trauma, ache, and difficulties making friends were more common among anxious adolescents as compared with psychiatrically referred adolescents without anxiety. Conclusions:The finding that only 21% of adolescents diagnosed with anxiety disorders were referred for anxiety further supports the routine use of standardized and structured instruments-irrespective of referral cause-to improve both precision and detection rates in the clinical setting. Comprehensive assessments are of utmost importance to fully address the complexity of the symptoms in this patient group.
