Characters of Nickel-Loaded Activated Carbon Fibers and Adsorption Experiments of Gaseous Mercury

Abstract: Nickel was loaded on the activated carbon fiber(ACF) surface, by adsorption and sintering. In order to change the chemical functional groups on the carbon fiber surface, and increase catalytic oxidation capacity and removal efficiency of activated carbon fiber to element mercury. The samples of ACF were characterized before and after loading, using XPS and XRD. The results show that the nickel content in the ACF surface was 3.36at.%. The presence of nickel form was NiO and Ni. The adsorption ability of element… Show more

“…The nitrogen contents in the NPCs samples are 4.85 wt % of NPC-600, 4.48 wt % of NPC-700, and 4.4 wt % of NPC800, suggesting that raising the carbonization temperature retarded nitrogen doping. As illustrated in Figure b, the high-resolution C 1s is deconvoluted into four peaks at binding energies of 284.3, 285.2, 288.6, and 290.1 eV, which are assigned to CC, CO/COH, CO/CN, and COOH bonds and functional groups, respectively. , In Figure c, there are three peaks with binding energies of 531.2, 532.7, and 536.1 eV, corresponding to CO, CO, and OCO bonds, respectively . As shown in Figure d, the peaks centered 398.1, 400.3, and 402.6 eV in the N 1s spectra are attributed to pyridinic nitrogen (PN), quaternary nitrogen (QN), and pyridine-N-oxide (PNO). , The above result provides a convincing evidence for successful nitrogen doping into the aromatic rings.…”

“…As illustrated in Figure 3b, the high-resolution C 1s is deconvoluted into four peaks at binding energies of 284.3, 285.2, 288.6, and 290.1 eV, which are assigned to CC, C O/COH, CO/CN, and COOH bonds and functional groups, respectively. 41,42 In Figure 3c, there are three peaks with binding energies of 531.2, 532.7, and 536.1 eV, corresponding to CO, CO, and OCO bonds, respectively. 43 As shown in Figure 3d, the peaks centered 398.1, 400.3, and 402.6 eV in the N 1s spectra are attributed to pyridinic nitrogen (PN), quaternary nitrogen (QN), and pyridine-N-oxide (PNO).…”

“…Deconvolution of the C 1s spectra showed the most pronounced peak being graphite-like carbon (CeC). The peaks located at different binding energies were attributed to different oxygen-containing groups e.g., CeO/CeOH (~286 eV), C]O (~287 eV), COOH (~289 eV), and CO 2 /CO 3 2À (~294 eV) [23]. These surface functional groups can improve the hydrophilic nature of the AC, thus allowing easy access of the electrolyte to the narrow pores size, which concentrated at 27 nm.…”

“…3a) showed the most pronounced peak being graphite-like carbon (C-C) at 285 eV and oxygen-containing groups located at different binding energy e.g., C-O/C-OH ($286 eV), C]O ($287 eV), COOH ($289 eV), and CO 2 /CO 3 2À ($291 eV). 19 These surface functional groups improved the hydrophilic nature of the N-AC and resulted in easy access of the electrolyte to the internal walls of the pores. In high resolution spectrum of O 1s, three types of O species located at 531 eV, 532 eV, and 535 eV, respectively, were detected (Fig.…”
