Charmonium coherent photoproduction and hadroproduction with effects of quark gluon plasma

Abstract: We study the charmonium coherent photoproduction and hadroproduction consistently with modifications from both cold and hot nuclear matters. The strong electromagnetic fields from fast moving nucleus interact with the other target nucleus, producing abundant charmonium in the extremely low transverse momentum region pT < 0.1 GeV/c. This results in significative enhancement of J/ψ nuclear modification factor in semi-central and peripheral collisions. In the middle pT region such as pT < 3 ∼ 5 GeV/c, J/ψ final y… Show more

“…STAR made the same measurements in Au+Au collisions at √ s NN = 200 GeV [11], and also observed significant enhancement at very low p T in peripheral collisions. The anomaly excesses observed possess characteristics of coherent photoproduction and can be quantitative described by the theoretical calculations with coherent photon-nucleus production mechanism [12][13][14], which points to evidence of coherent photon-nucleus reactions in HHIC. If coherent photonuclear production is the underlying mechanism for the observed J/ψ excess, coherent photon-photon production should also be there and contribute to the dilepton pair production in HHIC.…”

“…The heavy quark pairs are produced almost instantly at τ < 1/(2m c ) where m c is the mass of charm quark. Neglect charmonium formation process and assume the heavy quark pair can evolve into a certain eigenstate before the time scale τ 0 ∼ 0.6 fm/c of QGP reaching local equilibrium, one can simulate the evolutions of charmonium density in phase space in τ ≥ τ 0 with the transport model [12],…”
