Charting the Lipopeptidome of Nonpathogenic Pseudomonas

Abstract: Pseudomonas species are prominent producers of lipopeptides that support proliferation in a multitude of environments and foster varied lifestyles. By genome mining of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) with lipopeptide-specific organization, we mapped the global Pseudomonas lipopeptidome and linked its staggering diversity to taxonomy of the producers, belonging to different groups within the major Pseudomonas fluorescens lineage.

“…More detailed analyses of nonribosomal lipopeptide families have recently been published elsewhere. 10,11,46 Structure elucidation of nunapeptin B and C A comparable approach was applied for structure elucidation of peptides 2 and 3. Extensive MS 2 analysis allowed to determine most of the amino acid sequence of both compounds (Fig.…”

“…14 In fact, the extensively studied group of viscosins has so far included 17 characterized compounds, represented by viscosin, viscosinamide, WLIP (white line-inducing principle) pseudodesmin, massetolide and pseudophomins. 15 These lipopeptides are composed of a peptide chain of nine amino acids, typically attached to 3-hydroxydecanoic acid (3-HDA). 15 The structure is cyclized by the ester bound, which connects the C-terminus of the peptide chain with the alcohol function of the third threonine side chain.…”

Viscosin-like lipopeptides are varied in terms of the hydrophobic amino acid located at positions 4 and 9, where Leu, Ile or Val may be present.…”
