Checklist of Caddisflies (Insecta, Trichoptera) from Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Trichoptera presents about 15,000 species described globally, of which 2,562 are recorded in the Neotropics and 642 in Brazil, distributed in 70 genera and 16 families. In Brazil, knowledge of the distribution and species richness of Trichoptera is incipient and heterogeneous, especially in some states such as Mato Grosso do Sul. In this work, we present an updated checklist of caddisfl ies for Mato Grosso do Sul state, representing nine families, 24 genera, and 16 species, four of them are new speci… Show more

“…The extensive karst watershed of the Bodoquena Plateau is located in the transition zone between the cerrado (Brazilian savanna) and the Atlantic rainforest (Dias, 2000; Myers et al., 2000; Sallun Filho & Karmann, 2007). It is a biodiversity hotspot with a high level of endemism and complex trophic interactions (Calor & Quinteiro, 2017; Myers et al., 2000; Righi‐Cavallaro, Roche, et al., 2010; Righi‐Cavallaro, Spies, & Siegloch, 2010; Severo‐Neto et al., 2023). The region's climate is humid tropical (ZEE, 2009) with a mean annual precipitation of 1700 mm.…”

“…The elucidation of these biodiversity shortfalls is the first step to shed some light on ways to overcome the knowledge gaps and deal with their uncertainty (Hortal et al, 2015). In this way, the deficits were named to define best the research challenges and agenda, such as Linnean (taxonomic deficits), Wallacean (distribution deficits), Prestonian (abundance deficits), Darwinian (evolutionary patterns deficits), Hutchinsonian (abiotic tolerances gaps), Raunkiaeran (ecological traits deficits), Eltonian (biotic interactions deficits), and Haeckelian or Müllerian shortfalls (semaphoronts unknown) (Cardoso et al, 2011;Hortal et al, 2015;Calor and Quinteiro, 2017;Faria et al, 2020).…”
