Checklist of the Amphipoda (Crustacea) from continental waters of Russia, with data on alien species

Abstract: , 110 genera and 581 species and subspecies are reported. Species that constitute the autochthonous complex of Lake Baikal comprise 61% of the fauna (276 species, and 78 subspecies). The current taxonomic and the nomenclatural problems of amphipods from the Baikalian and Caspian groups are discussed. A separate list of alien species (or invaders) for continental waters of Russia is provided. РЕЗЮМЕ. Приведен таксономический контрольный список видов амфипод, зарегистрированных в континентальных водоемах, водото… Show more

“…Holarctic amphipod Gammarus lacustris Sars, 1863 is a widespread omnivore species that inhabits lentic and lotic ecosystems and has a broad tolerance to environmental stressors (Karaman & Pinkster, 1977; Barnard & Barnard, 1983; Matafonov, 2007; Väinölä et al, 2007; Takhteev, Berezina & Sidorov, 2015). This species reproduces during the summer and can have several reproduction periods depending on the environmental and ecological characteristics of the water bodies (Timoshkin et al, 2001; Timoshkin et al, 2008).…”

“…Lake Baikal is famous for its rich endemic amphipod fauna and is inhabited by more than 45% of the world's known gammaroidean species, all belonging to the suborder Gammaridea Latreille, 1802 (Takhteev et al. ). It is thus an ideal ecosystem to study ecosystem changes elicited through direct impacts of climate on the interaction of closely related species.…”

“…It has a wide distribution across Northern Hemisphere (Wilhelm & Schindler, 2000). G. lacustris inhabits lentic and lotic ecosystems and has a wide ecological valence (Väinölä et al, 2007; Takhteev, Berezina & Sidorov, 2015). Food spectrum of G. lacustris is broad.…”
