Contains both predators and permanent parasites of vertebrates. Some are nest or house-dust inhabitants, others live on plants or in insect colonies (phoretic), or are found (Hoffmannita) on Crustacea (Decapoda) and Arachnida (Scorpiones). There are Cheyletids (Cheyletiella parasitivorax, Ch. yasguri) living on domestic animals (rabbits, cats, dogs) and recorded as vectors of mange on Man. According to , 280 species of 54 genera (77.8%) are predators, 80 sp. of 19 gen. (23.2%) are parasites of birds and mammals.The first Cheyletid was described by Schrank (1781, the well known "Acarus" eruditus, type of the genus Cheyletus Latreille, 1796). The family Cheyletidae was described by Leach (1815). Among the many publications until 1969 should be mentionned the revision (and many other papers) of , the paper of Baker (1949) on North American Cheyletidae and the analysis of . A checklist of the oribatid mites from Vorarlberg (Austria) which covers all published records and hitherto unpublished results of additional collecting is presented. Several species are revised, doubtful and erroneous records from previous publications are discussed and corrected. At present a total of 327 described species are known from Vorarlberg, complemented by three subspecific taxa and two undetermined or undescribed species, altogether from 61 families. A total of 96 species (including 3 subspecific taxa) are newly reported from Vorarlberg, among them 16 species are new records for Austria. The compilation includes the occurrence of each species in different vegetation units and habitats of Vorarlberg, their known distribution in Austria and the neighbouring Alps, Switzerland and Southern Germany, as well as their general distribution. Occasional additional remarks give taxonomic and other information. A historical overview of the exploration of the oribatid mites in Vorarlberg is outlined. The general distribution of the oribatid mite fauna of Vorarlberg is analysed. Remarkable results are, among others, the findings of some mostly rare species which were described by Schweizer and Mahunka & Mahunka-Papp from Switzerland as well as species restricted to the Alps, mainly in higher montane regions.

The ubiquitous presence of hematophagous avian mites threatens the poultry industry in Asia and worldwide, adversely affecting the quality and quantity of eggs and poultry meat produced by affected flocks. This leads to considerable economic loss and welfare-related issues. The role of these blood-feeding arthropods as disease vectors is increasingly recognized as they may carry important zoonotic and epizootic pathogens. The poultry mites, Dermanyssus gallinae (Poultry Red Mite-PRM), Ornithonysus sylviarum (Northern Fowl Mite-NFM), and Ornithonyssus bursa (Tropical Fowl Mite-TFM) are endemic species across the Asian continent. In less frequency, scaly leg mite, depluming mite, and fowl cyst mite were documented. Considering global climate change and the popularity of backyard farming, the incidence of avian mite infestation is expected to increase as Asian production expands. The TFM may start to colonize subtropical nations where the seasonal temperature is comparable to tropical regions. Pyrethroids, organophosphates, carbamates, and macrocyclic lactones are licensed acaricides for use in China, Japan, and India. In recent years, the development of acaricide resistance has compromised the efficacy of chemical control measures. Several botanical acaricides based on plant and fungal constituents are being investigated. Judicious integration of multiple approaches to manage poultry mite infestation is advised. In this article, we review the prevalence, geographical distribution, zoonotic potential, and control measures of avian mites in poultry farms in Asia.
