“…The spectrum of QSG contained signals corresponding to (1 → 4) → β ‐ d ‐Xyl p , (1 → 4)‐ β ‐ d ‐Xyl p ‐2‐ O ‐Glc p A, and 4‐ O ‐Me‐ α ‐ d ‐Glc p (Table ). The resonance for carbonyl groups of the terminal non‐reducing d ‐glucuronic acid was observed at 176.17 ppm . The anomeric region includes various glycoside linkages in the polysaccharide structure.…”

“…Gum exudates produced by P. praecox typically contain the sugars arabinose (9%) and xylose (59%), together with b-O-glucuronic acid and its 4-ortho-methyl analogue (32%) (dePinto et al 1993(dePinto et al , 1994. However, research on the gum properties of P. praecox has been limited, and there have been no studies on this plant species in the Tehuaca´n region.…”

“…HX present in the leaves and barks of tropical dicots such as Litsea species 41,42) , bark of Cinnamomum cassia and other species 43) are heavily branched with Araf units and, in addition, contain b-LAraf units in terminal and internal positions. It is interesting that the gum exudate from the tree of Cercidium praecox (Leguminosae) comprises a HX with a 1,4-xylan core highly substituted with MeGA and GA side chains and containing also terminal b-GA and arabinosyl residues in a-L-furanose and b-L-pyranose form 44) . All these HXs are able to form highly viscous aqueous solutions and exhibit exudate gum properties.…”
