Chemical characterization ofCassia fistulapolysaccharide (CFP) and its potential application as a prebiotic in synbiotic preparation

Abstract: CFP may be a prebiotic due to its high resistance against α-amylase and acid. CFP provides two ways to adjust nitric oxide synthesis in macrophages. We show the use of CFP in the production of synbiotic yogurt with favorable physical and chemical characteristics.

“…Both strains were obtained from the bacterial strain collection in Food Microbiology Laboratory (Dairy department, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University, Egypt). An overnight culture of both strains was activated in nutrient broth (NB) (BD Difco™, Bacton, Dickinson and Company Sparks, MD, USA) at 37 °C for 16–18 h. The culture was diluted on test days in buffered peptone water to a final concentration of 1.5 × 10 8 colony forming units (CFU)/mL cell counts were assessed by pour plate method, one mL of a suitable dilution was incubated on nutrient agar at 37 °C for 24 h. colonies were then counted and converted to CFU/mL ( Dawood et al, 2021 ).…”

“…MRS broths without glucose or with 2% of glucose and inulin were used as the negative control, positive control, and prebiotic standard, respectively. A preb was calculated as previously reported by Dawood, et al [ 28 ]. …”

“…This mode of action confers probiotics to significantly exert the composition of the colonic microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract, thus in turn enhancing host health (Lee et al, 2002 ; Vergara et al, 2010 ). A few articles (Yoo et al, 2012 ; Ajanth Praveen et al, 2019 ; Seong et al, 2019 ; Andreani et al, 2021 ; Dawood et al, 2021 ; Zhou et al, 2022 ) confirm that Lactobacillus also has some prebiotic properties. Therefore, how to maximize the value of the symbiotic relationship between prebiotics and probiotics is the focus of current research.…”
