Chemical Composition and Bioactivity of Essential Oil of Ten Labiatae Species

Abstract: Using antibiotics as feed additives have been successively banned worldwide from 1986; therefore, it is an urgent task to finding safe and effective alternatives. As natural products of plant origin, essential oils (EOs) are an outstanding option due to their reported bioactivity. In this research, ten EOs of Labiatae species were extracted by steam distillation and its chemical constituents were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of 123 chemical compounds, including alkenes, p… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the extract showed a good anti-bacterial ability against klebsiella oxytoca, Serratia ficaria and Staphylococcus xylosus. C6H6O3 presents the maximum construction (38.5178%), which could be the factor affecting these bacteria [24], [25]. Table 5 presents the Ethanol Yass abstract; it is very effective against Staphylococcus lentus (Red and blue) as well as Escherichia coli.…”

“…Recent literature suggests that a high dose of phytogenic feed additives poses a threat to cellular processes and functions. Excessive doses of essential oils containing monoterpenes may promote pro-oxidant activity by damaging the mitochondria, disturbing electron flow, and producing reactive oxygen species [ 80 , 92 ]. Generally, flavonoids are antioxidants, but the presence of copper converts them to pro-oxidants.…”
