Chemical Composition and Particle Size Analysis of Kaolin

Abstract: Abstract. The mineral and elemental composition, crystal structure and particle size distribution of kaolin clays have been determined to ascertain its industrial significance. The mineral composition is evaluated by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), crystalline structure by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and particle size distribution using low angle laser light scattering (LALLS) technique. The results shows the presence of eight elements expressed in percentages in form of their oxides as: SiO 2, Al 2 O 3, Fe 2 O 3, MgO, … Show more

“…Chemical composition of Kaolin powder consists of 57.6% SiO2 | 37.8% Al2O3 | 0.9% Fe2O3 | 0.6% MgO being the main constituents [42]. Being both a siliceous and aluminous material, Kaolin is a partial pozzolanic additive for cement reacting to form C-S-H and C-A-H products [83].…”

“…[21][22][23][24][25] Kaolin, a clay mineral which is abundant on the earth, it is composed of abundantly 1 : 1 clay mineral Al 2 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 structure per alumina-silicate producing bulky congested particles of SiO 4 tetrahedral sheets and AlO 2 (OH) 4 octahedral sheets. 26,27 Kaolin clay are promising supports due to their common fascinating features, such as their inherent acidity, excellent thermal stability and easily controlled structural morphology. 28 Therefore, the acidied-kaolin with larger specic surface area is widely used as a very good catalyst carrier.…”
