A tannin, EA (1), and other nine non-tannins compounds, gallic acid (2), quercetin (3), myricetin (4), 3-O-methylellagic acid 4'-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (5), quercetin-3-Oβ-D-galactopyranoside (6), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (7), quercetin 3-O-β-Dglucuronide (8), quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (9), 3,3',4-tri-O-methylellagic acid-4'-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl (10) were isolated from a valuable medicinal plant, Eucalyptus citriodora. Structural identification of these compounds was conducted using 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR spectroscopy and comparing their spectral data with those previously reported in literatures. The anti-inflammatory effects of EA were evaluated in ethanolinduced acute gastric ulcer mice models in our study. The result demonstrated that the intragastric administration of EA significantly prevented the gastric ulceration caused by ethanol treatments. Especially, the gastric tissue in the middle dose EA (100 mg/kg) showed few ulcerations with only slight focal congestion which indicated that it has a significant protective effect on gastric ulcer by increasing the IL-10 and PGE2 levels, and reducing the IL-6, TNF-α, GAS and COX-2 levels. In addition, the middle-dose EA has no adverse effect on liver and kidney. These findings imply that EA exerts gastroprotective effects by means of its anti-inflammatory effects and may be a potential drug for anti-ulcer treatment.

The extensive chemical investigation on the branches and leaves of Terminalia chebula var. tomentella (Combretaceae) led to the isolation of two new lignan glucosides with a furofuran skeleton, termitomenins F (1) and G (2). In addition, 19 known compounds including five lignan glucosides (3–7), six hydrolyzable tannins (8–13) and eight simple phenolics (14–21) were also identified. Their structures were determined by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses. It is noted that 8 and 9 were C-glycosidic hydrolyzable tannins with one hexahydroxydiphenoyl and one gallagyl group linked to an open-chain glucosyl C-1/O-2/O-3 and O-4/O-6, respectively, which were rarely found in plants. Nine known compounds, 6–9, 13, and 18–21, were procured from the titled plant for the first time, while 3–5, 10–12 and 14–17 were also found in the fruits. Notably, the known hydrolyzable tannins 8–13 exhibited stronger α-glucosidase inhibitory activities with IC50 values ranging from 0.10 to 3.12 μM, than the positive control, quercetin (IC50 = 9.38 ± 0.33 μM). Recently, the role of plant-based nanoparticles as sustainable catalysts has emerged as a new eld in material science. As a result of their wide applicability, bio-designed nanocatalysts have dominated the present study. At this juncture, this study gives the rapid and systematic procedure for the formation of an aqueous Elaeocarpus Sylvestris plant leaf extract capped Copper Oxide nanoparticles (ESCuO NPs). A benign method has been established for the fabrication of ESCuO nanoparticles that which serves as an innocuous, renewable, and mild reducing agent. Vivid spectrochemical and optical experimental investigation supported the formation of the ESCuO particles. Based on TEM investigation, the produced ESCuO NPs had spherical shape and an average size of 53 nm. The phytochemicals were used as a reducing agent internally without the use of harmful chemicals or extremely high temperatures. The derived ESCuO NPs have been employed as a powerful catalyst to reduce 4-nitrophenol. Further, rate constants for different doses were calculated. The antioxidant e ciency of synthesised ESCuO NPs was determined. This study illustrates the way for cutting-edge synthesis of CuO NPs with numerous applications.
