“…It is to be noted that the interchange of oxygen and sulphur in the carbamates (Table 5) has minor effects which might well be ascribed to no more than the differences in physical properties. The same absence of major effect on substitution of oxygen for sulphur was observed in the fungistatic activities of these substances (Davies & Sexton, 1946). SUMMARY 1.…”

“…Test8 on carbamate, and thiocarbamate8 An obvious extension of the types of compound containing adjacent S, C and N atoms was to derivatives of dithiocarbamic acid. Since, moreover, interchange of sulphur and oxygen in this class had not led to marked alterations in fungistatic activity (Davies & Sexton, 1946), or even tq a more limited extent in selective herbicidal activity (Templeman & Sexton, 1946), a comparison of the insecticidal activity of carbamates and thiocarbamates was necessary. The results of contact tests are given in Table 4.…”

“…There is little relevant information on the biological properties of BTH, BTOH and BTSA. MBT, however, has been reported to inhibit nitrification by activated sludge (Tomlinson, Boon & Trotman, 1966); it also has fungistatic properties (Everitt & Sullivan, 1940;Davies & Sexton, 1946) which can be counteracted by zinc compounds (Dimond & Horsfall, 1943;Tomlinson et al, 1966). The purpose of the present work was to discover if BTSA is biodegradable and, if so, to ascertain whether the end products are non-toxic or otherwise.…”

“…Since fungicidal activities of benzothiazole derivatives were first described in the patent1) which disclosed 1-hydroxy, 1-amino and 1-thiol derivatives in 1932, many analogous compounds have been tested for their fungitoxicities. [2][3][4] Our recent investigations showed that the derivatives of benzothiazolone were effective in controlling rice blast disease caused by Pyricularia oryzae Cav., whereas their fungitoxicities in a nutrient medium were low. Among the derivatives, we found that the compounds substituted with alkyl or halogen groups at both 3 and 4-positions of a benzothiazole ring were generally more effective than those substituted only at 3 or 4-position, and 4-chloro-3-methyl-2(3H)-benzothiazolone (chlobenthiazone) was selected as one of the most effective compounds.…”
