Chemical oxidative grafting of conducting poly(N‐methyl aniline) onto poly(ethylene terepthalate)

Abstract: Detailed studies on the peroxidisulfate (PDS) initiated graft copolymerization of N-methyl aniline (NMA) with poly(ethylene terepthalate) (PET) were carried out in p-tolene sulfonic acid medium under nitrogen atmosphere. Experiments were designed to follow the rate of formation R h of the poly(N-methyl aniline (PNMA), simultaneously with the rate of grafting of PNMA onto PET. Effects of concentration of NMA, PDS, PET, time, and temperature on R h and graft parameters were followed. Kinetic equations were deduc… Show more

“…Polypyrrole (PPy) [1,2,5], polyaniline [6,7] and their derivatives [8,9] are much more preferred as conducting polymers for the preparation of synthetic fibers/conducting polymers. Among the conducting polymers, PPy has some advantages over the other conducting polymers due to its superior properties such as higher conductivity, environmental stability, and easy synthesis [10,11].…”
