“…Such influence continues into this day, see, e.g. Zhu et al [212] (which is influenced by [153]) or Karkov et al [213] (which is influenced by [154]). In other words, the two articles by Shyu et al [153,154] have remained influential in the literature of Ce3d spectra of cerium oxides for 30 years, and have acted as a basis to interpretations such as the following:…”

“…The values of both the direct (E gD ) and indirect (E gI ) optical bandgap energies were obtained from the linear fitting of the plot (αhν) 2 and (αhν) 1/2 vs. the photon energy Figure 7), where it can be observed how the linear fits for both E gD and E gI shift to higher energies with increasing T. The increment of E gI bandgap when T rises has been reported by Zarkov and coworkers [33]. Figure 8 exhibits E gD and E gI versus T. The figure shows that both E g values described, approximately, parallel line shapes, i.e., have the same energy separation in the 250-550°C interval of T. Since E gI < E gD , as expected for CeO 2 , the bandgap is indirect.…”

“…The weak band at 461 cm −1 is assigned to the stretching mode (F2g mode) of Ce-O8 vibrational unit. Obvious, the CeO 2 -M sample showed broader peak (F2g) than CeO 2 -P. In addition, the F 2g Peak of CeO 2 -M is located at 458 cm −1 , lower shift than that (461 cm −1 ) of CeO 2 -P. These results mean the disorderliness in the O atom, due to the incorporation of K + in CeO 2 for the charge balance [31,32].…”
