Chemical Weed Management in Maize (Zea maysL.) under Conservation Agricultural Systems: An Outlook of the Eastern Gangetic Plains in South-Asia

Abstract: Maize is a widely grown cereal after rice and wheat and contributes almost 5% to the global dietary supply. In the Eastern Gangetic Plains (EGP) including India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, maize is an emerging cash crop, because of its high yield potentiality and also the favorable climatic conditions which allow maize production round the year. In Bangladesh, area and production of maize are escalating due to the increasing demand for poultry, livestock, and fish feed, and fodder for animals and starch industries… Show more

“…The weed community in maize can include many species, but it is generally dominated by a few species that are most abundant, spread the best and have the strongest effect on the crops, limiting its growth, development and yield (Iderawumi and Friday 2018). Species occurring during our own study belonged to the most common weed community in maize fields and competed strongly with it (Hossain et al 2019).…”

“…Utilization of herbicides after the germination of field crops and weeds is referred to as postemergence herbicides. Post-emergence herbicides can be sprayed or applied on the canopy of weed in the field of maize by utilizing the sprayer tool (Hossain et al, 2019).…”
