140ChemInform Abstract Starting with the bicyclic anhydride (I), the (3.3.3)propellanes (IX) and (XI) are prepared via cycloaddition reaction with cyclopentadiene (II), base-induced ring closure of the 1,4-diketone (VI), and oxidative cleavage of the norbornene moiety in the tetracyclic ketones (VIII).
