ChemInform Abstract: Crystallization Kinetics of Calcite in the Presence of Magnesium Ions

Abstract: ChemInform Abstract (Ca(HCO3)2 solution containing Mg(HCO3)2) are studied by a seeding technique. Mg is found to inhibit the growth process of calcite. The extent of the inhibition action depends on the state of supersaturation of the mixed solution at the time of the calcite seed addition and the total dissolved Mg concentration. The application of the chemical mechanistic model is more successful for analysis of the growth data than the parabolic rate law.
