ChemInform Abstract: EINFLUSS ELEKTRISCHER FELDER AUF DAS ABSORPTIONSSPEKTRUM VON FARBSTOFFMOLEKUELEN IN LIPIDSCHICHTEN 3. MITT. ELEKTROCHROMIE EINES CAROTINOIDS (LUTEIN)

Abstract: Das Elektrochromiespektrum von Lutein wird im Dünnschichtkondensator gemessen. Show more

“…In carotenoids, that would correspond to an increase of long-axis polarizability with about 1100 A3 (Aa,) upon excitation from the ground to lB, state. Electrochromic measurements have been done on the carotenoid lutein (Schmidt and Reich, 1972) and on lycopene in 3-methylpentane (Seibold, 1969) and the results were Aa, = 910 A3 and A a = 246 f 22 A3, respectively.…”

“…The last term is the electrostatic solvent shift, which we will not consider here. The second term is the usual quadratic Stark shift, which is negligibly small because E St is several orders of magnitude smaller than E pocket (Schmidt and Reich, 1972;Gottfried et al, 1991;Grewer and Lösche, 1991;Kohler et al, 1994). The interesting term is the first one, which we call the pseudolinear Stark shift, to account for the fact that this term is linear in E St but scales with ⌬␣ (Köhler et al, 1998).…”

“…It has long been believed that polar substituent groups such as a hydroxyl group are necessary in order that a carotenoid molecule makes a substantial angle relative to the plane of the substrate in the mixed LB film (Schmidt and Reich, 1972;Palacin et al, 1989). However, our present investigation reveals that this is not the case, since nonpolar makes a substantial angle relative to the plane of the substrate.…”

“…This model was first proposed by Schmidt and Reich (1972) to analyze the molecular orientation of all-trans-lutein in the mixed LB film with cadmium arachidate. In their investigation, they only examined the absorbance at 45° incidence.…”
