ChemInform Abstract: Photochemistry of Pyridine N‐Oxides. Trapping of an Intermediate with Amines.

Abstract

ChemInform Abstract Photolysis of the pyridine N-oxides (I) in the presence of diethylamine (II) yields the stereoisomeric enaminonitriles (III) and (IV), 2-formylpyrrole (Va), the pyridines (VI), and 4-phenyl-2-pyridone (VIIb). Irradiation of 2,6-dimethylpyridine N-oxide (VIII) gives only the rearrangement product (IX). (Nitrene intermediates).
